European Journalists Network
By asking to participate in an EJN event, a member signifies his or her acceptance of the conditions below.
Travel
Members participate in events as individuals. The European Journalists Network has no responsibility as a guide or organizer.
In announcing an event, the EJN informs members of the opportunity available. Sometimes it also allocates places among would-be participants.
The EJN is not liable for any harm incurred during the event or caused by its cancellation or interruption. It is not insured against resulting damage and will not recompense any members who suffer it.
Participants should carry sufficient funds, or insurance, to meet their needs, including the cost of return if the programme is not completed.
Cancellation fees
When participation requires advance booking, the EJN charges a fee from participants who cancel.
The fee is payable whatever the reason for non-participation. If a participation charge is payable, the cancellation fee is added to it.
The aim of cancellation fees is to deter frivolous bookings and encourage the earliest possible cancellation by those who have made reservations but subsequently find they are unable to attend.
The cancellation fee does not depend on the cost of participating in an event, and is payable even when the event is free.
The fee varies according to when the cancellation is sent.
| Sent before the list of participants is published | 0 |
| ...more than 12 hours before the event starts | € 20 |
| ...less that 12 hours before the event starts | € 40 |
| No notice of cancellation, no show | € 60 |
Possible EJN subsidies to defray the cost of events are not payable to non-participants and cannot therefore be deducted from the cancellation fee.
To avoid problems of adjudication, the committee has decided that the fee will be payable in all circumstances, whatever the reason for non-participation.
There are no exemptions for events beyond the member's control. Such force majeure events include sickness, injury, bereavement and amnesia.
